New York: We are less than 48 hours away from Team India’s T20 World Cup 2024 opener and the focus is on premier batter Virat Kohli. The former India captain joined the team late after a well-earned break. But, since joining the team, he has not had a single batting net session. Yesterday, it seemed Kohli would hit the nets but that did not happen as the session was called off. Sri Lanka and South Africa were using the training facilities and hence Team India’s training session did not take place. Kohli is likely to have a bat in the nets on the eve of India’s tournament opener versus Ireland.
No practice session for Team India today. Sri Lanka and South Africa are using practice facilities today. So in all likelihood, Kohli will have his first nets tomorrow USA time.

Given his form, Kohli would be the key to India’s fortunes at the mega event. Kohli was the leading run-scorer in the recently-concluded IPL season. The RCB star bagged the Orange Cap for scoring 741 runs at a strike rate of over 150 as an opener. It would now be interesting to see if Kohli is opening at the T20 WC or will he play at No. 3.
India’s Predicted XI: Rohit Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant, Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Siraj, Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh
The Indian XI looks formidable on paper, now it would be interesting to see the kind of performances they come up with.
India will take on Ireland in their T20 World Cup opening match in New York on June 5 before the high-octane clash against arch-rivals Pakistan on June 9. You can follow the LIVE updates of all India matches on india.com for all games.
