IND Vs PAK: Naseem Shah In Tears After Pakistan Fail To Breach Indian Fort In T20 World Cup 2024 – WATCH

New York:
Pakistan pacer Naseem Shah was in tears after the Men in Green failed to breach the Indian fort, thus losing the marquee T20 World Cup 2024 by a narrow six runs at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium. Chasing India’s 119 all out, Pakistan could only manage 113/7 in 20 overs. With two losses in two games, Pakistan are on the verge of elimination from the group stage itself.

Needing 18 runs in the final over, Naseem and Shaheen Shah Afridi could only manage 11 runs against Arshdeep Singh as Pakistan fell short. While walking out of the field, Naseem couldn’t old himself as he broke down with Afridi consoling him like a big brother.

Earlier, Pakistan dismissed India for a below-par total, courtesy an all-round bowling effort with Naseem (3/21) and Mohammed Amir (2/23) being the most impressive. India lost seven wickets for just 28 runs after being 89/3 in the 12th over.

Sending India to bat first Nassem gave India the breakthrough when he forced Virat Kohli chase a widish delivery straight at the hands of Usman Khan at point. With India reeling at 19/2 at one point, the Men In Blue decided to promote Axar Patel (20 off 18) to no.4 to shield Suryakumar Yadav, a surprising move considering India bat deep. The southpaw did play some bold strokes, including a six over third man off Afridi, in his brief stay.

However, Axar’s stay in the middle was shortlived as he decided to dance down the wicket against Naseem only to miss the line of the ball completely and see his stumps shattered. The right-arm pacer also dismissed dangerous Shivam Dube for his third wicket to give Pakistan the upper hand at one stage.

While chasing, Pakistan were pretty sitting at needing 48 runs in as many balls with eight wickets in hand. However, the pace combination of the ever-effective Jasprit Bumrah (3/14) and Hardik Pandya (2/24) brought India back from the dead with incisive spells that saw Pakistan lose wickets in a heap.

As it stands, Pakistan will now have to win their final two games and hope that Ireland beat USA so as to have an outside chance to advance to the next stage.
