Sarfaraz Khan or Rajat Patidar – Who Will Replace Injured KL Rahul During Ind-Eng 2nd Test at Vizag?

Vizag: Hosts India were below-par in their approach and that is what led to the loss against England in the first Test at Hyderabad. With Rohit Sharma and Co. trailing now, problems seem to be mounting for the side ahead of the second Test at Vizag. Senior batter KL Rahul, who hit a brilliant 86 in the opening Test, has now been ruled out of the Vizag game due to an injury. With a couple of days still to go for the second Test – the question is – who will replace Rahul – will it be Sarfaraz or will it be Patidar?

The feeling is that Sarfaraz, purely based on his current form, is likely to edge Patidar to the side in the second Test. Over the past 2-3 seasons, Sarfaraz has been getting truckloads of runs, yet he was not able to earn his maiden Test call-up, but it happened yesterday and now, he looks good to be playing at Vizag.

Sarfaraz scored 160 off 161 last week, in an unofficial four-day Test between India A and England Lions, where he was named the Player of the Match. That knock could help Sarfaraz make the XI at Vizag.

In his short career so far, Sarfaraz has played 45 first-class matches so far for Mumbai and amassed nearly 4000 runs (3912 to be exact) at an average of 70, that includes 14 hundreds and 11 fifties. The BCCI too recognised him with the Madhavrao Scindia award most runs in 2021-22 Ranji Trophy season.

“You all know that Sarfaraz got his maiden Test call-up today. I want to thank everyone, especially Mumbai Cricket Association where he grew up. Also, the National Cricket Academy where he got experience, BCCI and the selectors for trusting in him, and all his fans who prayed for him and supported him,” Sarfaraz’s father Naushad Khan said in a video posted on social media.
